COMPASS - Computer-Adaptive Placement, Assessment, and Support System
The Compass is an untimed, computerized test that helps your college evaluate your skills and place you into appropriate courses. The assessment offers tests in reading, writing, math, and English. There is no "passing score"; rather, Compass scores indicate areas in which you are strong and areas in which you may need help. Thus, the Compass can identify problems in major subject areas before they disrupt your educational progress, giving you the opportunity to prepare more effectively for needed courses in college. SHS students may take the COMPASS for a variety of reasons; however, it is not mandatory that you do so. Some students must take the exam in order to qualify for dual credit in some courses if their ACT subject area score is not high enough to qualify them. Others may take the exam in order to qualify for admission to Career Center programs at Ozarks Technical Community College. Still others take the exam to determine the level of courses they are eligible to take in college. See Mrs. Grass for more info.
